NEW YEAR, NEW YOU

By Dr. Scott Asnis

It’s that time of year again. With holidays parties and events around every corner, you need to be sure your smile is camera-ready. It also can mean dental emergencies and patients requiring quick relief and fixes.

Dental365 was founded with patient comfort being at the center of the design. It has many locations throughout the New York Metropolitan area that are open 365 days per year. Dental365 is committed to making it easy for patients to obtain the dental care they need. If a patient is heading to a company holiday party on a Thursday night and breaks a tooth, they can walk into Dental365 and be treated immediately without making a fashionably late entrance to the party.

During the holiday season, Dental365 sees lots of busy New Yorkers coming in for services to improve their smile, but we also see many patients coming in with emergencies such as crowns that have come off, abscesses, wisdom teeth complications, traumatic injury, and grinding/bruxism.

ONE-STOP TO A BEAUTIFUL SMILE
Surprisingly, we see more cases of bruxism during the holidays than any other time of year. All too often we carry our stress in our jaw, which can lead to bruxism otherwise known as grinding. Bruxism is a condition in which you grind, gnash or clench your teeth. If you have bruxism, you may unconsciously clench your teeth together during the day, or clench or grind them at night (sleep bruxism). If you find yourself having any of the symptoms listed below you should visit your dentist as soon as possible.
• Worn tooth enamel
• Face pain rooted at the jawline
• Earache-like pain
• A headache in the temple area
• Sores from chewing or biting the inside of your cheek

If left untreated bruxism can lead to more serious issues including TMJ, teeth damage, and sleep deprivation. Take time this holiday season to slow down and enjoy your friends and family. Remember to take deep breaths and find moments to relax during your day.

QUICK & EASY
The holiday season is the perfect time to get that smile you’ve always dreamed of. Why put it off any longer? Make your smile your new year’s resolution! Below are some ways professional dentistry can quickly and easily improve your smile.

Teeth Whitening There are many things you can do to improve your smile depending on what you are looking for. Teeth whitening has become very popular in the past few years, and with good reason. It enhances the appearance of teeth by removing surface and deep stains. Professional whitening versus over-the-counter products is much safer and lasts much longer. Your dentist can also make sure that the gums do not get irritated from the whitening agent.

To receive the best result, it is essential to remove any plaque buildup or tartar on your teeth before whitening. Pre-cleaning and an exam to ensure you will get the most from your whitening experience are highly recommended.

Orthodontics Your New Year’s resolution may also be to correct an abnormal bite or crowded teeth. Braces not only improve the aesthetics of your smile, but they also improve your overall oral health.

Restorative Procedures The New Year may be the right time to begin or complete restorative work such as crowns, implants, or fillings that you have been putting off. Doing so will help preserve your tooth structure and maintain proper tooth alignment, which will improve your oral health and overall smile.
